Great Garden Blogs

My last post was negative, something I am not comfortable with or really very good at. In order to counteract my complaining about garden blogs that I don’t like I thought I would recommend some that I follow. The blogs I follow tend to be real people talking about what they did today or some thought, not just showcases or single line posts (Wordless Wednesday excluded of course). I find them interesting.

There are may wonderful gardening blogs out there and I will add more later, but it’s a start! I apologize beforehand to those not yet mentioned.

CSM Diggin’ It Gardening – I started following one of the writers for the Cristian Science Monitor blog and have found the articles to be quite handy. Their tips are across the board – everything from pruning trees to growing flowers. A useful site for the homeowner!

Daffodil Planter – Who knows what you will see when you visit this blog. It could be advice on gardening tools, what is in bloom now or how to care for a specific plant. No matter what an article is about it is always useful and presented in a friendly voice with wit and charm.

Ecosystem Gardening – Carole Brown. Read her About page, I could not do this woman justice. She means it – she honestly believes in eco-system gardening. The information she shares coupled with her factual, first hand knowledge is highly valuable to anyone who wishes to put an effort into habitat, eco-friendly landscaping.

Elizabeth’s Secret Garden – If this girl is our future, I say thank goodness. She is young but smarter than us adults and very aware of her surroundings. He blog is mostly about her butterfly raising and observations, so if you are interested in butterflies I recommend you visit Elizabeth to see how it’s done.

From the Soil – Chris Tidrick. A ‘real people in the garden’ blog which presents a view of the every day happenings in a backyard. Chris has the ability to present what some may consider average as an event. A leaf changes, something buds out or flowers and it becomes a shared experience.

Get in the Garden – Lisa Gustavson. What do I love about her blog? It’s personal. Lisa takes the details of her private world and shares it with her readers as if she was having a personal, one on one conversation. She walks you through her experiences of trying new things or presenting what is going on with her established systems.

My Back 40 (Feet) – Chuck B. Love this man’s photo journals! I found myself instantly addicted to the photo tours of his surroundings and gardens. Chuck B. is in San Fransisco so most of his flowers I have no idea what are, I learn a lot. He also lists Leonard Cohen, David Bowie and others I love on his music list which instantly won me.

New England Habitat Gardening – Ellen Sousa, THB Farm. Ellen tops my ‘Gardens That Make You Whine With Envy’ list. She has a perfect habitat garden, but it is also beautiful. Her work teaches us that a wildlife garden can be stunning, yet warm and inviting to both humans and wildlife at the same time. The photos are full of ideas!

Our Little Acre – Kylee. What a gentle soul! Kylee walks us through the daily tiny but important events happening in her garden and it is truly a beautiful world. I would vote her to be the sweetest person blogging about gardening – she chats about her family, her flowers and things she has noticed and it’s always a very soft perspective.

Simple Solutions for Living in a Complex World – Mike Lieberman. This man and I have nothing in common. He’s a city boy, I’m country stock. He has a vegetable garden on his fire escape and a worm bin in his kitchen but Mike earned my respect because he has a vegetable garden on his fire escape. His attitude is positive and enthusiastic, in photos he displays a charming smile that makes you want to start making planters out of used soda bottles.

Whole Life Gardening – C.L.. She chats in her blog. I love chatty blogs. C.L. can go smoothly from one topic to another and tie the entire world up in one life. She claims that “gardening isn’t separate from other aspects of life, but is part of the whole” and I believe her.

I’m deeply honored by your comments. Thank you. This is a wonderful list and I’m off to subscribe to some new blogs. And I love how you take a really good look at individual plants and point out the benefits of so many specific native plants.
